Starting from May 2, 2025, a repairability index will be mandatory for certain products placed on the market. This index aims to inform consumers about how easy it is to disassemble and repair a product. The law of March 17, 2024, implemented through two royal decrees and a ministerial decree published on September 4, 2024, defines this index.
What is the Repairability Index?
It is a score based on five main criteria:
1. The availability period of technical documentation and maintenance and usage advice.
2. The ease of disassembly of the product.
3. The availability and delivery times of spare parts.
4. The cost of spare parts and equipment sold by the manufacturer or importer.
5. Specific criteria for each product category.
Which Products Are Affected?
This index will apply to:
However, products intended exclusively for professional use or those already subject to a durability index are excluded.
Obligations for Manufacturers and Importers
Manufacturers and importers must calculate the repairability index for the products they market and provide this information to retailers and distributors.
Obligations for Retailers
Retailers must clearly display this index next to the product price to inform consumers. Additionally, they must provide a link or QR code giving access to detailed calculations of the index and the technical standards used.
